Former school listed for $25,000 in West Virginia looks like castle — but needs ‘TLC’
A very inexpensive residence has landed on the real estate market in Big Springs, West Virginia, but be warned before you glance at the photos — there’s a huge reason why.
The building was once a former school with a castle-like appearance that was built around 1928 and is extremely rough inside, which is why the asking price is a low $25,000.
Needless to say, it is not move-in ready.
“The school is in very, very poor condition and is not usable at this time,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “The best use for this school would be (the) salvage value of the rare hand-cut stone, some possible flooring in the old gym area, metal stairwells and other building / electrical materials.”
Or, if you’re in need of a challenging project, you can give it the attention and love it needs to rebuild the building into your dream house.
Should be noted that the photos are pretty chilling — at least of the interior.
The building was featured on Friday Night Zillow, a Twitter segment that features unique homes on the real estate market.
“Castle for sale in West Virginia. $25,000. Ideal for one of those TLC home makeover shows. ‘Rare hand-cut stone.’ ‘Just over an hour from Parkersburg,’” the segment’s creator, Steven Dennis, wrote on Twitter.
“You know you want that sweet Appalachian castle,” one person said.
“Needs a little TLC,” another tweeted.
“It’s a lot bigger than your photo indicates...but needs tons of work,” someone noted.
The home is currently “under contract” the listing notes.
Big Springs is about 80 miles northeast of Charleston.
