Grandma of 10 checks her phone at 3 a.m. — and learns she’s a massive lottery winner
A 50-year-old grandma did a “double take” once she realized she won a massive lottery prize on an app, officials said.
The Gloucester County, New Jersey, woman woke up at 3 a.m. to an email that said she won $1 million, but she “didn’t think it was real,” according to an April 24 news release by the lottery app Jackpocket.
“I didn’t believe it at first,” the woman told officials. “But when I realized it was for real, I was pretty happy!”
The grandma of 10 bought a $2 Powerball ticket using the app when she “had a feeling to play.” She “couldn’t go back to sleep” after learning about her win, officials said.
She walked around her home until 7 a.m. and called her friend to share the good news, according to the release.
The woman told officials she plans to spend “the bulk of the winnings on her grandchildren.”
She said on top of spoiling her youngest grandchild who’s turning 2 soon, she is planning on taking vacations and trips to Disney with her grandkids, according to the release.
Gloucester County is just south of Philadelphia.
