Man wins big with Maryland Lottery scratch-off. ‘All I saw were zeros and commas’
A 48-year-old man got a lucky win after buying five instant tickets because “he had such a good feeling,” Maryland Lottery officials said.
The Eastern Shore man who was planning his 20-year wedding anniversary got a big budget boost when he won a $100,000 prize with an In the Money instant ticket, according to an April 3 news release.
The man “enjoys playing new scratch-offs” and saw the ticket after it “caught his eye,” officials said.
He ended up buying five of the $10 games, according to the release.
The first four tickets were duds, officials said. Once he scratched his remaining ticket, he saw he won the top prize of $100,000.
“I scanned the QR code and then all I saw were zeros and commas,” the man told officials. “I then took a step back, looked around, tucked my ticket away and got out of there.”
The man loves fishing and watching his son play baseball. He plans to put the winnings toward his anniversary vacation and use the rest to pay bills and renovate his home, according to the release.
He bought his ticket from the Shop Stop Express Market in Hurlock, officials said.
Hurlock is about 90 miles southeast of Baltimore.
