‘Maybe they can read.’ Video shows elk crossing road in the perfect spot in Colorado
A herd of elk crossed the road at the perfect spot in Colorado — right near one of those bright yellow elk crossing signs that alert drivers to watch for crossing wildlife.
Wildlife photographer Laurie Ann Hanson captured the video and posted it to her Instagram Saturday, Feb. 25. It shows a herd of elk inching closer and closer to the road until one gets close enough and makes a break for it, inspiring the rest of the herd to follow closely behind.
“Watch the herd of elk — only half of the herd scramble across this road in a Colorado suburb,” Hanson wrote in the caption.
Hanson said she captured the video early in the morning between Highlands Ranch and Castle Pines, about 20 miles south of Denver.
It caught the attention of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and officials shared it on social media March 9 as a reminder to drivers to pay attention to road signs and to watch for wildlife on roadways.
“When the elk crossing sign is VERY spot on,” officials said on Twitter.
People in the comments seemed tickled by the herd crossing at the wildlife crossing sign.
“Maybe they can read,” someone wrote.
“How thoughtful of them to cross right by their sign!” another person wrote in the comments on Hanson’s Instagram video.
