James Devine and his wife went to Massachusetts in February to visit their family after welcoming their fourth grandchild.

They were expecting to spend time together. They weren’t expecting to come home richer.

Devine, from Estero, Florida, decided to buy a $4,000,000 Platinum Jackpot instant ticket while spending time up north, according to a Feb. 22 Massachusetts Lottery news release.

It was the first winning ticket in the Platinum Jackpot game.

Devine chose to accept the one-time cash option for his lottery prize, taking $2.6 million back home to Florida.

He told lottery officials he plans to use some of the winnings to buy a new golf cart so he and his wife can get around their community.

Devine bought the ticket in Chicopee, 90 miles west of Boston. Estero is about 20 miles south of Fort Myers, Florida.
