After playing the Maryland lottery for years, a Parkville man could still be surprised.

He went out and bought a $10 scratch-off ticket and brought it back to his kitchen table, he told lottery officials. He scratched the numbers and thought he had won another $10, at least getting his money back.

Then, as he scratched, he saw another zero. Then, another. In his hands was the winning $100,000 ticket in the Gold X50 lottery game.

“I was shocked!” he told lottery officials.

He said he let out a scream, and his wife came to see what was going on.

He had won lottery prizes before, in the $5,000 range, but nothing could prepare him for the jackpot.

“I enjoy playing, but I never expected this. I feel like I’m dreaming,” he said.

To celebrate, the winner said he would have dinner with his wife, and then put the money towards a new house.

There are six top prizes left in the Gold X50 game.

Parkville is a northeast suburb of Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
