22-year-old student home for holidays killed in hit-and-run accident, Michigan cops say
A 22-year-old walking along a Michigan road was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, police say.
First responders found Benjamin Kable dead at the scene following the crash around 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, in Oakland Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Kable, a senior at Michigan State University, had been at his Shelby Township home for the holidays, according to WDIV and WJBK.
Kable was walking in the southbound lane of Rochester Road when he was struck by a BMW 300 series traveling the same direction, the sheriff’s office said. The driver then fled the scene.
“A terrible crash like this is horrific enough, but to flee the scene and leave a person in the road like trash is unforgivable,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “We need the public’s help finding this person.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 248-858-5000.
