A man found dead on a Georgia road had been shot and then hit by two vehicles, officials said.

Deputies were called to a highway in reference to a crash early Tuesday, Nov. 1, according to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.

While at the scene on Bowman Highway — also called State Highway 172 — officials reported finding a body on the road.

The man was identified as 32-year-old Delphonso Heard of Hartwell.

Sheriff Mike Cleveland in a news release didn’t say how Heard’s body ended up on the road or the types of vehicles involved in the incident.

Deputies said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to help with the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 706-376-3114 or leave anonymous tips with state investigators at 800-597-8477.

Hart County lies on the border with South Carolina, roughly 100 miles northeast of Atlanta.
