Bear searching for a ‘sweet treat’ climbs on top of Colorado home, photos show
Halloween attracted some early trick-or-treaters this year in Colorado, state wildlife officials said.
One trickster ended up on the roof of a home in Steamboat Springs in search of a sweet treat. Colorado Parks and Wildlife posted photos of the bear on top of the house with a warning: “Don’t let your house become the popular one on the block for the wrong reasons this Halloween.”
“Happy Halloween!” officials wrote in the caption. “Trick-o-treaters were out early in search of some sweet treats in Steamboat Springs. Unfortunately, one did receive a treat.”
The photos show the bear in a yard, a dumpster in what appears to be a driveway, and on top of the home’s roof. They also shared tips on how to bear-proof your home.
“Don’t feed bears, and don’t put out food for other wildlife that attracts bears,” the first tip read. That apparently includes Halloween candy.
“Black bears are curious, smart and very adaptable,” the website states. “They’re not fussy and will eat just about anything with calories. Bears want to get the most energy they can with the least amount of effort. Every bear’s goal is to get fat enough to live through the winter.”
