Instagram outage is locking users out of their accounts. ‘What is going on?’
Many Instagram users woke up on Halloween morning to the discovery that their accounts have been suspended without warning, leaving them unable to scroll their feed or post content.
“We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account,” Instagram said in a statement on Twitter. “We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”
Across Twitter, many users are sharing screenshots of the glitch, which shows their Instagram account was suspended on Oct. 31. The message tells the user their account did not follow Instagram’s community guidelines.
“Anyone else facing this issue on Instagram? Or is my account really suspended?” one user asked.
“What is going on? My account literally got suspended for no reason,” said another user.
Some users were given a prompt to verify their email address and phone number to contest the suspension, but an appeal formation does not appear to be working.
The issue has caused #InstagramDown to trend on Twitter. People began reporting the outage at around 8:40 a.m. ET Monday, DownDetector.com shows.
It’s unclear when the issue will be fixed. Some people have reported their page has been restored.
For those who have had their accounts suspended, others are unable to view their page and see their posts.
“My account was completely disabled. It had me appeal the decision and then it logged me out and now says my user name or email isn’t found,” one person said on Twitter. “I’ve been a user since 2012. I have photos I don’t want to lose on Instagram.”
Some people with functioning pages have noticed a significant drop in followers, perhaps due to account suspensions.
