What’s an ‘earth-sheltered home’? Zillow Gone Wild describes it as a place to ‘hide’
A River Falls, Wisconsin, house has fans on a popular social media real estate page talking up a storm thanks to its unusual, yet ridiculously cool, exterior.
It’s called the “Bermed-Earth-Sheltered home” and draws curious “Hobbit”-like images thanks to it being tucked slightly underground and away from prying eyes.
It’s also only $315,000.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom “artistic masterpiece” was designed by architect Mike McGuire and has a load of features over its tastefully decorated 2,236 square feet, including:
Three fireplaces
Five updated skylights
“Two newer furnaces controlled by Nest”
Energy efficiency

Admirers on Zillow Gone Wild were all agog over the home and expressed their thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
“This is my dream house,” one person wrote. “I wish I could move there right now.”
“Bet it’s nice and cool!” another commented. “Great place to hide from the world and just read books!”
“I like it. But it kind of reminds me of in one of the ‘Little House on the Prairie’ books when they were living in a dugout,” someone said.
“The outside is nice, but the inside is more Star Wars-ish,” one person noted.
“Okay, so this is awesome,” another commented. “Waaaaaay cooler that any of those gaudy, huge McMansions.”
“The chances of some old guy claiming to be a wizard with a quest for you knocking on your door would be (too) ... high,” someone tweeted.
“This is the most hobbitian home I’ve ever seen in the US and I want to live there now,” one person said.
River Falls is about 40 miles southeast of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
