Thrown chair sends high school into lockdown, Florida cops say. Student was arrested

A Florida high school went into lockdown after inaccurate reports that a shot had been fired on campus, the school said in a statement on Twitter.
The sound that led to the lockdown at Winter Springs High School was caused by a student throwing a chair.
“A student in the discipline office became upset and threw a chair causing a loud disturbance,” Seminole County Public Schools tweeted just after 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. “The campus was immediately secured.”
Winter Springs is about 15 miles northeast of Orlando. Winter Springs High School enrolls 1,990 students.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a tweet that an early report of a shot fired was not accurate.
Police responded to the school and arrested the student on charges of property damage and disturbing the peace “by interfering with school administration functions,” according to Clickorlando.
Since the start of the academic year, schools across the country have responded to threats and reports of students bringing guns to campus.
Students returned to school recently in Uvalde, Texas, after a shooting at an elementary school at the end of the last school year left 19 children and two adults dead.
So far in the calendar year 2022 there have been 29 shootings in schools that resulted in injuries or deaths, according to Education Week.
