A man was severely injured when a van dragged him about 25 feet after he lost balance on an electric scooter and fell into the street, police in California said.

Luis Lopez was knocked unconscious after his fall on Fickett Street in Los Angeles on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 27, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

A white Ford Econoline van traveling north on the same street then ran Lopez over and “dragged him approximately 25 feet before he was dislodged,” police said. The driver left without stopping.

Lopez, who had severe injuries, was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, officials said.

Police said Lopez is “in stable condition and expected to recover.”

In a video posted by police, Lopez pleads for the driver who hit him to turn themselves in.
