An early-morning shootout left a 17-year-old boy dead on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, California police reported.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired on Hollywood Boulevard at 1:08 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, found the teen with a firearm by his side, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.

The shootout began when two groups of people met on the street and one group began firing as the other ran away, police said.

The 17-year-old, who was shot multiple times, and another man opened fire on the people who were fleeing, police said. It’s not clear how the teen ended up being shot.
