$3 movies are coming to US theaters — for one day only. Here’s what to know
Moviegoers will be able to snag $3 tickets at most U.S. theaters — for one day only.
The deep discount will be available at more than 3,000 movie theaters nationwide in celebration of National Cinema Day on Saturday, Sept. 3, the Associated Press reported. The deal lasts all day and is valid on “every showing, in every format.”
The inaugural event, started by the nonprofit Cinema Foundation, hopes to lure movie lovers over Labor Day weekend, which is typically a sluggish time for theaters, according to the news outlet.
Participating chains include Regal Cinemas, AMC Theaters, Cinemark and several others. Fans can also enjoy discounts on popcorn, drinks and other concessions. Additional taxes and fees apply.
“This day is for movie lovers across the US, celebrating how movies are meant to be seen, on the big screen,” Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer for Regal, said in a news release. “We are excited to be a part of National Cinema Day, offering our moviegoers the opportunity to see the latest blockbusters at Regal, no matter the format.”
A promotional sizzle reel of upcoming films from Focus Features, Disney, Warner Bros. and other film studios will roll before each showing, according to AP. Organizers of the nationwide event hope to make it a yearly fixture.
McClatchy News reached out to the Cinema Foundation on Monday, Aug. 29, and was awaiting a response.
