Small plane crashes into driveway of home during emergency landing, Florida officials say

A small plane made an emergency landing on a Florida highway, clipping palm trees with its wings and crashing partially into a person’s driveway, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The plane, a 1956 Cessna 182, had a mechanical failure in the air, causing the pilot to make the emergency landing in the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard in Orlando, just before 4 p.m. on Aug. 19, the release says. The pilot was the only person on board.

The aircraft crashed partially in the south shoulder of the road and partially on a home’s driveway, according to highway patrol.

The wings struck two palm trees, and the plane’s front hit the home’s driveway wall.

The pilot suffered minor injuries and did not go to the hospital, the release says.

The aircraft is registered to a company in Longwood, Florida, about 15 miles north of Orlando, according to the Federal Aviation Administration registry.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it would be investigating the crash, along with the National Transportation Safety Board.
