Security guard slain trying to intervene in murder-suicide, California cops say
A San Jose security guard who tried to intervene in a fight was killed during a murder-suicide in an apartment parking lot, California police reported
A man shot and killed a woman and the security guard before killing himself at 1 a.m. Sunday, June 12, San Jose police said in a news release.
The couple leave six children, ages 1 to 10, who were in a nearby apartment at the time, The Mercury News reported.
“This is (the) worst-case scenario in a domestic dispute type of situation,” San Jose Police Sgt. Christian Camarillo told the publication. “This is a very, very tragic incident.”
A security guard at the complex died while trying to intervene in the argument, KTVU reported.
“I’m sure he’s trying to do the right thing, sees somebody in distress and wants to go help and intervene, and, unfortunately, the suspect committed a heinous act and killed him,” Camarillo told KNTV.
The gunman had a firearm with the serial number scratched off, KTVU reported. Police did not release the names of any of those killed.
“It is really sad and scary that people have access to guns so easily that a domestic dispute could lead to a loss of life so quickly, and unknown people also get shot,” neighbor Vishnu Vithana told KNTV.
