A woman who went to a Pittsburgh park for a game of pickleball not only won her match against a couple of athletic 20-somethings, but she gained viral fame in the process.

Turns out those opponents weren’t just some random jocks, they were stars for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The woman, identified by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as 64-year-old Meg Burkardt, said in a text message to her daughter that she “had no idea who they were” when she joined them in a game.

“Last game the guy in the green shirt and I whooped the other two,” she told her daughter, who shared the text message screenshot on social media.

That guy in the green shirt is Minkah Fitzpatrick, the 2-time All-Pro safety for the Steelers. Fitzpatrick and Burkardt faced off against TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Watt, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, admits he and Highsmith were no match for Burkardt.

“Meg was serving the HEAT. We had trouble all day,” Watt said on Twitter.

Watt told the Post-Gazette that Burkardt taught them some lessons on the pickleball court, and that she “carried” her NFL star teammate with her “wicked serve.”

As for Burkardt, she called it “very exciting” to know she shared the court with some NFL players.

“It was one of those surreal things that you get in your car to leave and you’re like, ‘I can’t believe that just happened,’” she told the Post-Gazette.

The Steelers poked fun at the viral match on social media, saying “Don’t mess with Meg and Minkah on the pickleball court.”
