Woman learning to drive plows Range Rover through 8 headstones at cemetery, MA cops say
A luxury SUV came barreling through the headstones at a Massachusetts cemetery on Saturday, April 16, toppling grave markers over on several plots, according to police.
Police in Melrose — roughly 10 miles north of Boston — responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. for a “motor vehicle crash” at the Wyoming Cemetery, a release said.
When officers arrived, they found a banged up Range Rover stopped amid a mess of broken tombstones, a photo shared by police shows.
The driver, a 53-year-old Melrose woman, was learning to drive but lost control, the release said. She had a learner’s permit and a relative, who has a license, was riding along with her.
Neither was hurt, but multiple graves were damaged and at least eight headstones were knocked down, police said.
City workers “successfully uprighted” the downed headstones.
Melrose police are investigating the crash.
