‘Sesame Street’ video resurfaces - and people can’t get enough. See Elmo’s response

The internet is up in arms over Elmo having to share a cookie with a pet rock — and now the iconic “Sesame Street” character has responded.

The 2004 clip, which resurfaced through Twitter on Monday, Jan. 3, shows Elmo request an oatmeal raisin cookie — his favorite. But that cookie belonged to Rocco, Zoe’s pet rock, and Zoe would not let the red, fuzzy character take Rocco’s treat.

“Rocco!? Rocco’s a rock, Zoe! Rocco won’t know the difference,” Elmo tells Zoe.

“Yes he will!” Zoe responds. “You can’t have that cookie, Elmo! Rocco wants to eat it!”

“How? How is Rocco going to eat that cookie, Zoe? Tell Elmo. Rocco doesn’t even have a mouth,” Elmo fires back. “Rocco is just a rock. Rocco is not alive.”

More than 400,000 people have liked the resurfaced tweet, with tens of thousands offering their take on the situation.

The majority seem to agree with Elmo, who appeared to be at his wits’ end in the viral clip.

“It’s almost like the pandemic is getting to him too,” author Seth Abramson said. “Right now we are all Elmo having an oatmeal raisin cookie denied him so that a rock can be placed next to it.”

“The Elmo vs. Rocco saga is one of the most astounding things I’ve ever seen,” another Twitter user said. “The funniest part is that Elmo’s never in the wrong, but he keeps getting scolded for playing along.”

As his 2004 outburst resurfaced, Elmo responded on Twitter on Jan. 5 and gave an update about his relationship with Zoe and her pet rock.

“Don’t worry everybody! Elmo and Zoe practiced sharing and we are still best buds forever!” Elmo said. “Elmo loves you Zoe! Ha ha ha! Elmo doesn’t want to talk about Rocco.”

Elmo wasn’t done, offering one last opinion about the cookie many felt was rightfully his.

“Has anybody ever seen a rock eat a cookie? Elmo is just curious,” the character said on Twitter.
