Man threatened with knife after tackling truck burglar, California cops say
A curious driver halted a car break-in before being held at knifepoint in a California parking garage, police said.
And it was his knife.
The man was driving up a Palo Alto parking garage on Nov. 10 when he saw two men acting “suspicious,” the Palo Alto Police Department said in a Nov. 17 news release.
He then parked on the third floor and walked down a level to see what the men were doing, police said.
That’s when he heard glass shatter and witnessed the men standing next to a 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup, police said, with its door window smashed.
Both men ran.
The witness chased after the pair and tackled one to the ground, police said.
They fought until the bystander’s pocketknife fell from his pants and the man picked it up and threatened him with it, police said.
Authorities said the suspect held the knife “close to the victim’s face” and told him to let go of his partner or he would stab him.
The suspects stole the knife but dropped a bag containing $300 worth of items they had taken from the truck, police said. The bag was returned to the truck’s owner.
Police didn’t find either of the men but described them as being in their 20 to 30s.
Police said that if you see a crime — such as a car break-in — in progress, call the police, keep a distance and get a description of the suspects.
