Father and son are U.S. citizens. Feds say they went to Syria and fought for ISIS.
A father and son got charged in Miami federal court Wednesday with providing material support to ISIS.
Emraan Ali, a 53-year-old born in Trinidad & Tobago, and son Jihad Ali, a 19-year-old born in New York, are the last to be charged of the 27 U.S. citizens federal prosecutors say were captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces while fighting for or supporting ISIS.
The criminal complaints say the Ali men and other family members went to Syria in 2015 so the Ali men could join ISIS, and claims they did so after receiving military and religious training. They’d been in SDF custody since surrendering near Baghuz in March 2019.
