Kylie Jenner’s bikini-clad Instagram post sparks massive boost in voter registration
A social media post by Kylie Jenner triggered a massive spark in voter registration.
The businesswoman and social media icon posted two bikini-clad photos of herself on Instagram Monday. The caption read: “But are you registered to vote? Click the link in my bio.. let’s make a plan to vote together.” She also shared the link in a similar post on Twitter.
Her link boosted traffic on Vote.org by 1,500% and resulted in 48,000 people registering to vote, a spokesperson for Vote.org said.
“Following Kylie Jenner’s Instagram post, the surge in interactions with Vote.org’s registration verification tool speaks to an energy among young Americans who want to make sure their voices are heard this election,” Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey said in a statement.
Jenner has 196 million Instagram followers, making her account the fifth-most followed in the world, Brand Watch reported. In comparison, about 138 million Americans voted in the 2016 presidential election.
Jenner has not endorsed a candidate in the upcoming election. As of Thursday morning, her Instagram bio still features a Vote.org link.
Vote.org said Tuesday it received a record 1.5 million new registrations last week. The nonpartisan website says it “uses technology to simplify political engagement, increase voter turnout and strengthen American democracy.”
