‘Cake Boss’ star impales hand multiple times during malfunction at home bowling alley
Buddy Valastro, the star of TLC’s “Cake Boss,” is recovering after a gruesome, in-home injury knocked him out of commission on Sunday.
The famous baker posted a photo of him recuperating on Instagram Wednesday with the caption “was involved in a terrible accident a few days ago...what do you think of the new accessory?”
A representative for the confectionery star said in a statement to multiple outlets including PEOPLE that Valastro “impaled” his hand in the baker’s in-home bowling alley in New Jersey.
“There was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter, a common fix in the past, but it turned into a terrible accident,” the spokesperson said. “After trying to release the bowling pin from the cage mechanism, his right hand became lodged and compressed inside the unit. Unable to remove his hand, he can see a 1-1/2” metal rod slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger.”
The representative told Newsweek Valastro’s teenage sons, Buddy Jr. and Marco, used a reciprocating saw “to cut through the metal rod” in order to free their father.
“Cake Boss” is a reality show that revolves around Carlo’s Bake Shop, a business operated by Valastro and his family.
