Payless shoe retailer is back online — with hundreds of stores planned

Shoe shoppers, Payless has some very good news: It’s back! And with a new name.

Payless announced Tuesday that is relaunching the brand — dropping “Shoesource” from its moniker — in North America, according to a news release.

The retailer’s e-commerce website, Payless.com, is already up-and-running, and Payless has plans to roll out 300-500 stores across the continent in the next five years.

“We saw an opportunity for the brand to relaunch into the U.S. market, providing our community with the affordable, value driven products they’ve always searched for, now across multiple categories, at a time when value couldn’t be more critical,” CEO Jared Margolis said in the release.

“Payless is for everyone, and now more than ever, the world needs to pay-less. We are so excited to bring Payless back to you, so you and future generations to come can lead the way forward.”

The first store is planned to open in Miami — home to the company’s new headquarters — in November, CNN reported.

Payless aims to have 30 to 45 stores open in Texas and “other border states” by 2021, according to the outlet.

Online, customers can shop brands such as American Eagle, Kendall+Kylie and K-Swiss.

Last year, Payless Shoesource, founded in 1956 in Topeka, filed for bankruptcy protection and closed all of its more than 2,000 locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, CNBC reported. It also shut down its e-commerce operations.
