U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents snagged two bags instead of the one boat they were chasing near Puerto Rico last week.

But they’re not taking it as a complete loss — the duffel bags contained over $2 million cash, according to the agency, which thinks those on the boat dumped the cash.

This all happened Wednesday near Vieques, Puerto Rico. Air and Marine Operations Marine Interdiction Agents “detected a vessel, which began to maneuver to elude them,” Customs said.

Before they got to the boat, they saw the duffel bags and snagged them before they sunk. Each bag, Customs said, had over $1 million cash.

“Transnational criminal organizations seek to conceal and move currency from their activities,” stated Johnny Morales, Director, Air and Marine Operations for the Caribbean Air and Marine Branch.
