Photo shows man’s unusual date for his sister’s Ohio wedding -- a well-dressed llama

An Ohio man showed up to his sister’s wedding over the weekend with a llama as his plus-one.

Mendl Weinstock promised his sister Riva in 2015 that he would only attend her wedding if he could bring a llama, HuffPost reported.

“She was talking about her wedding almost as if it was going to happen the next day,” Mendl, 21, told HuffPost. “Sitting in a car for five hours listening to this was driving me crazy. So I wanted to see if I could get a reaction out of her.”

Mendl didn’t want to fall short on his promise, so on Sunday he showed up to Riva’s wedding alongside a llama wearing a tuxedo, Insider reported. It cost him $400 to rent the llama from a farm near Cleveland and get the tuxedo made, according to CNN.

“It was so worth it. I mean it was worth it just to see her reaction, but it’s been more worth it now that I’ve gotten all this internet fame,” Mendl told CNN.

His sister expected nothing less after getting engaged in October. Mendl said Riva had “full warning” and knew he was serious about bringing his llama date, according to BuzzFeed.

“She has told me that for the first few years she definitely thought it was bluffing, but as we got closer to the wedding and especially after she got engaged, she realized I was serious,” he told BuzzFeed.

When the wedding day finally came, Riva was not amused. She “had this humongous gaping look on her face,” Mendl told BuzzFeed. She agreed to take one photo with the animal and get back to her wedding day.

“I promised him that I would take one picture,” she told Insider. “I said, ‘I will not stand next to the llama, I will not touch the llama, but I will take one picture.’ My friends can attest that I went outside, I took exactly one picture, and then I went right back inside and was not having any more of it.”

The gag didn’t stop there, though. Inside the wedding hall two inflatable llamas were sitting at the sweetheart table, CNN reported. Riva said after all of it she plans to get her brother back at his own wedding, according to CNN.

“I’ve definitely started planning my revenge,” Riva told CNN. “He should sleep with one eye open.”
