A cat named Cupid got shot in the head with an arrow — and survived, Virginia experts say

A cat who was found with an arrow through his head miraculously survived the worst.

On Valentine’s Day, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington got a call from a rescue partner in West Virginia that Cupid must’ve missed and put an arrow through a cat’s head, the group said on Facebook.

The cat had been shot in the head and needed serious medical attention, but the West Virginia partner did not have the money to perform the necessary surgery, the Animal Welfare League said on Facebook.

“How could we say no?” the group said on Facebook. “As soon as we saw his photos, we knew we had to step up and see if we could save his life.”

The cat had to undergo surgery to remove the arrow, and the Animal Welfare League prepared him for surgery.

“Despite the immense amount of discomfort and pain he must have been in, he started to purr every time someone talked to him, making biscuits and asking for chin scratches,” the group said. “It was then that we decided to name him Cupid.”

During surgery, the vets found out that the arrow didn’t penetrate any major organs, but Cupid had a very serious infection, the Animal Welfare League said on Facebook.

For two hours, Cupid underwent surgery to remove the arrow and clean out the infection. The group said the cat “so far is doing well.”

“This was a very intense surgery for a young, underweight cat, so we will be monitoring him carefully,” the group said. “At this point we cannot 100% guarantee he will make it through this ordeal, but we are doing everything we can to save his life, and this little guy is a fighter.”

The Animal Welfare League updated Cupid’s fans Monday that he is recovering well from his surgery.

“We’re happy to report that today Cupid is doing really well after his surgery yesterday!” the group said on Facebook. “He has a good appetite, is getting lots of rest and just wants to spend as much time as possible snuggling with our staff.”
