President Trump tweets Super Bowl congratulations to Chiefs — and the state of Kansas
President Trump’s instant reaction after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl on Sunday was a bit off the mark.
“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on a great game, and a fantastic comeback, under immense pressure. You represented the Great State of Kansas and, in fact, the entire USA, very well. Our country is PROUD OF YOU!” Trump tweeted after the Chiefs’ 31-20 comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
The Chiefs, of course, play in Missouri and have since 1963, when they moved from Dallas. Kansas City is the largest city in the state of Missouri.
To be fair, there is a Kansas City, Kan., across the river, but that Kansas City isn’t even the largest city in Kansas, and is definitely not the home of the new Super Bowl champions.
The tweet was deleted and corrected after a few minutes, but it was too late. Twitter had already noticed.
The Chiefs scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win their first Super Bowl in 50 years.
