Take a look at a giant Kobe Bryant grass mural that can only be seen from the sky
A California couple paid tribute to Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
Kelli Pearson, an artist for New Ground Technology, created a 115-foot-by-93-foot grass mural of Bryant in Pleasanton. The NBA great is pictured in his Los Angeles Lakers jersey and smiling while holding a basketball.
Pearson’s husband Pete Davis imprinted the graphic with a machine he created, according to Patch.
”I think it hit her more than it hit me. She woke up knowing we had to do something. We wanted to do something local,” Davis told ABC7.
“It’s been building all week. Last night we were watching all the late-night shows, watching all the emcees getting choked up,” Pearson said.
The mural can only be seen from an aerial view, according to ABC7. Davis said the couple prefers not to disclose the location of the mural, but that it’s at one of the parks in Pleasanton. The tribute will be open for around two days before the grass returns to normal.
Pearson told CBS San Francisco that she used TurfPrinter technology to create contrast between dark and light in the grass.
Bryant, his daughter and 7 others died in a crash in Calabasas on Jan. 26.
After news of Bryant’s death broke, fans around the world have immortalized the basketball star through murals and tributes, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A new mural has been painted in Los Angeles’s Mid City by artist Jules Muck. It depicts Bryant and Gianna with the words, “Kobe and Gigi, forever daddy’s girl,” down the side.
