That new $1,500 Motorola Razr flip phone? It’s already sold out a week before launch
Apparently flip phones really are making a comeback — Motorola’s new Razr is already sold out and it hasn’t even been released yet.
Pre-orders for the new Razr flip smartphone opened on Jan. 26, Business Insider reported.
The phone is a new take on Motorola’s groundbreaking flip phone released in 2004 that shocked consumers with its slim profile, according to PC Magazine.
Now, only two days later, the Razr appears to be sold out more than a week before its launch date.
Initially, the phones were slated to be released on Feb. 6, but according to both Motorola’s and Verizon’s websites, expected delivery dates have been pushed back to Feb. 18.
The Verge first noticed the date had been pushed back on Monday. Motorola had already delayed pre-orders by a month “claiming that interest in the phone had exceeded its initial expectations,” the Verge reported.
The smartphone may bear a slight resemblance to its early aughts predecessor — the new Razr is also strikingly thin — but the phone is wider than the original and has a touch screen that folds in half, according to PC Magazine.
The phone also has a smaller “quick view” screen on the front that allows users to take selfies, play music and see notifications while the phone is closed, according to Motorola. It’s also water repellent and features an Android operating system, the company says.
The new Motorola Razr will set you back a cool $1,499.99 or $62.49 a month for 24 months, according to Verizon, but the company is offering a few trade-in deals to take the edge off.
