What 2020 Democratic hopefuls are saying about the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant

Former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and other Democratic presidential candidates posted messages of mourning on Twitter following the death of basketball great Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others were killed Sunday when a helicopter they were riding in crashed into a California hillside. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Biden posted on Twitter that Bryant’s death is a “reminder of how special — and fragile — life is.”

“And it’s a reminder that we’ve got to make every day count,” the post read.

Warren said she and her husband were heartsick for Bryant’s wife Vanessa and the family and friends of those killed in the crash.

“America, hold your children close and tell your loved ones how much you care,” the post read.

Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg posted similar messages about the tragedy. In a tweet, entrepreneur Andrew Yang said that Kobe was an “all-time great who had his entire life ahead of him.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders has yet to post about the crash, but NBC News reporter Shaquille Brewster said the candidate told him Kobe was “certainly one of the great basketball players who’ve ever lived.”

President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Sunday that he and First Lady Melania Trump are sending their “warmest condolences to Vanessa and the wonderful Bryant family.”

“He loves his family so much, and had such strong passion for the future,” the post read. “The loss of his beautiful daughter, Gianna, makes this moment even more devastating.”
