Pets fly like royalty with Delta’s new high-tech travel carrier. Here’s how to try it
Flying with your pet is about to get a lot less stressful.
On Wednesday, Delta Air Lines announced it is taking pet travel to the next level with updated travel carriers.
The airline has teamed with pet travel company CarePod to creative innovative carriers that keep pets’ comfort and owners’ peace of mind at the forefront, a news release says.
What is it?
The pink carriers are easy to spot and feature a number of high-tech trappings, including a spill-proof water bowl that automatically refills itself as well as GPS tracking that allows experts to track pets’ journeys from beginning to end, the release says.
Owners will also be able to view real-time updates on their phones through deltacargo.com.
Other features include insulated walls to protect man’s best friend against temperature fluctuations during their journey as well as specialty angled blinds to create a “calming environment” amid unfamiliar surroundings, the release says.
Delta also says it has teams of specialists and veterinarians constantly reviewing the airline’s pet processes and policies as well as specially trained handlers to ensure pets are well taken care of throughout the entirety of their journey.
“We’re thrilled that pet owners can now vacation and fly their pets with Delta’s best-in-class CarePod solution, having the peace of mind that their pets are protected in smart pet travel carriers, that are also digitally supervised by the Delta Cargo Control Center throughout the entire journey,” CarePod founder and CEO Jenny Pan said in the release. “With the Delta partnership, we aim to raise the benchmark for pet air travel to allow families and pets to stay connected and travel safely together.”
Where is it available?
For now, CarePods will only be available on Delta flights out of Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), San Francisco and West Palm Beach.
But don’t worry. The airline says it has plans to phase-in the travel carriers across its entire U.S. network, according to the release.
How can I use a CarePod?
To book a CarePod, visit deltacargo.com or call Delta’s customer service center at 1-800-352-2746. They can be booked between three and 13 days before departure.
“As the only airline to offer this premium pet travel solution, it represents a significant improvement for the millions of people who want to travel with their four-legged family members,” Vice President of Delta Cargo Shawn Cole said in the release.
