How does 17 tons of M&Ms affect your commute? When it’s blocking the road

A tractor-trailer hauling 35,000 pounds of candy overturned Friday in Tennessee, media outlets report.

The truck flipped in the Knoxville area on an Interstate 40 ramp early that morning after officials say the driver swerved to avoid hitting something in the road and crashed into a concrete wall, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

It then hit a second tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder, the News Sentinel reported.

It was carrying 35,000 pounds of M&Ms, Mark Nagi, spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Transportation said on Twitter.

The crash closed the eastbound ramp to Papermill Drive for several hours, Nagi wrote.

The driver of the overturned semi was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, WBIR reported.

No charges are expected in connection with the crash, Scott Erland, Knoxville Police Department spokesperson, told the News Sentinel.

Crews had the ramp cleared by about 7 p.m. Friday, WBIR reported.
