Dad took 9-year-old with him to home burglary — then punched an officer, TX cops say
A Texas dad is accused of taking his 9-year-old daughter with him when he burglarized a home and struck the homeowner, police said, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Then he punched the officer who tried to separate the dad and his young child, police said, according to the newspaper.
Police in San Antonio responded to the neighborhood at about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday after a call regarding “a suspicious person breaking into homes in the area,” KABB reported.
“A homeowner followed the suspect and alerted police,” KABB reported.
One of the responding officers went up to the 42-year-old man “as he dragged his 9-year-old daughter behind him,” KSAT reported.
The female officer — a 19-year veteran with the department — tried to take the girl away from her dad when “a struggle ensued,” police spokesman Michelle Ramos said, reports the Express-News.
The officer used her stun gun on the man, police said, but it “was ineffective,” according to KSAT.
That’s when the 42-year-old dad punched the officer in the face before running away, the Express-News reported. He was arrested down the street.
The man, whose name has not been released by police, faces charges connected to assaulting a police officer and “burglary to commit assault,” KABB reported.
He “did not appear to be in the right frame of mind,” Ramos said, according to KSAT. The man lives on the same street as the home he is accused of breaking into, KSAT reported.
The 9-year-old girl wasn’t injured during the incident, the Express-News reported.
