The best buy at a Miami discount store? A $2 million Florida Lottery ticket
Whatever else Miami’s Virginia Alvarez bought at the Government Discount strip mall discount store, there’s no doubt her best purchase was a $10 Florida Lottery scratch-off card.
That ticket from the 100X The Cash game won the $2 million top prize for Alvarez, who recently took the prize as a lump-sum payment of $1.28 million.
Government Discount, 3709 NW Seventh St., sits between a Fresco y Mas and a Walgreens, selling everything from cafecito and pastelitos at the ventanita window to cookware and underwear inside. It’s also a popular place for lottery game players and got a $4,000 bonus for selling Alvarez her ticket.
Scratch-off games accounted for around 74% of Florida Lottery ticket sales in the 2023-24 fiscal year, the agency said.
