Victor Scheide, whose career as a builder left an imprint on the look and feel of South Florida, died suddenly March 28 in the North Miami home he built. He was 66.

A lifelong Miamian, Scheide served as leader of Aaron Builders, which began as a fencing company owned by his father.

Scheide’s career, which began in his early teens, stretched for more than half a century and over hundreds of projects from downtown Miami to Lincoln Road and beyond.

Among the most notable projects: Vagabond Hotel, 1450 Brickell Canopy, the Clevelander, Magic City, Lincoln Theater, Bhojwani Tower, Ice Palace, C Atkins Federal Court House, Security Building, The Moore Building, The Betsy Hotel, the Lincoln Road parking garage, as well as homes on Star Island.

“He absorbed pressure so others didn’t have to, and he took care of everyone around him quietly and with integrity,” said his daughter Valerie. “The people who worked with him knew they were in the presence of someone rare, a protector whose compassion for the people in his care was constant and genuine. Everyone loved my father.”

An avid outdoorsman, Scheide was most himself fishing South Florida’s waters on his boat.

He is survived by his wife Violetta; his two children, Valerie and Victor; Violetta’s two children, Lauren and Brandon; and his beloved dogs, Vito and Viva.

Services will be at 11 a.m. April 11 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 650 NE 135th St. in North Miami.
