Dolen’s colleague, former Herald architecture critic Beth Dunlop, spoke of her friend’s impact on the South Florida community in an interview shortly after Dolen died of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on Feb. 2 in her Davie home. She was 74.

“After knowing her for well more than four decades, I am fully convinced that Christine made the most important contribution to theater in South Florida, encouraging and imploring it to grow, aim high, experiment, explore, be brave and flourish. Her commitment to regional theater was unparalleled. She held it to high standards,” Dunlop said.

“A once-in-a-lifetime storyteller, mentor and friend, let our industry forever celebrate her legacy by holding our standards as high as if she were in the audience,” said Actors’ Playhouse General Manager Brooke Noble. “South Florida theater is better because of Christine.”
