Trump to sign executive order to ‘suspend immigration’ amid coronavirus pandemic

President Donald Trump says he will be signing an executive order to “temporarily suspend immigration” amid the global pandemic.

“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!” Trump tweeted late Monday night.

The tweet did not specify when the executive order would be signed but sources told the Miami Herald to expect more details on Tuesday. During his daily COVID-19 briefings, Trump has repeatedly referred to the coronavirus as the “invisible enemy.”

On Tuesday, the White House issued a statement but did would not clarify or explain any specifics. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the president hopes to make more jobs available for Americans.

“President Trump is committed to protecting the health and economic well-being of American citizens as we face unprecedented times. As President Trump has said, ‘Decades of record immigration have produced lower wages and higher unemployment for our citizens, especially for African-American and Latino workers.’ At a time when Americans are looking to get back to work, action is necessary,” McEnany said.

Over the last few weeks, migrants at the Southern border have been turned away by the masses.
