Martin County firefighters, FWC officers, rescue loggerhead turtle wedged in rocks
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and Martin County firefighters rescued a giant loggerhead sea turtle that became trapped in rocks on the beach earlier this week.
The female reptile, which weighed about 300 pounds, was spotted by a local photographer who was shooting sunrise pictures at House of Refuge Beach in Stuart Wednesday morning, according to an FWC Facebook post.
She called FWC, and officers arrived, as did Martin County Fire Rescue paramedics, the agency said. They were able to lift the large turtle, and she was able to make her way back to the ocean unharmed, the FWC said.
The FWC asks anyone who sees injured wildlife to call the agency’s hotline at 888-404-3922 (FWCC).
