Our 2023 Miami Herald Private School Guide welcomes a new school year and all the changes that have come in Florida and in our community.

The biggest change: Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law in the spring HB1, which makes it possible for every school-aged child in Florida to get a taxpayer-funded education voucher to pay for private schools, regardless of the family’s income level.

As of Sept. 8, more than 240,000 students had enrolled in Florida’s 2,098 private schools using the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship and Family Empowerment Scholarship, as per a report by Step Up for Students, the organization that administers the majority of vouchers in the state, according to a News Service of Florida report. That is an increase of nearly 170,000 students using vouchers over the 2022-23 school year.

With more students attending private schools, the Miami Herald’s Private School Guide for schools in Miami-Dade and Broward is essential reading. We profile 75 private schools in the two-county area, providing valuable information about class sizes, tuition, application deadlines, clubs and sports and a host of other important things to know about each school.

Whether you are new to South Florida or a long-established resident, you will learn a lot about the private schools in our community through the Miami Herald’s Private School Guide. South Florida’s diversity shines as a beacon of light through these schools, with students from all walks of life represented in their classrooms.
