Local students named STAR students for their achievements
Independent Schools of South Florida, an association of accredited schools, hosted a luncheon recognizing students from its member schools who excel in academics, community service, citizenship, student activities, effort, dedication and improvement in performance or attitude.
Leni Saltos, Sol Cohen and Ana Solis of Jacobson Sinai Academy were recognized this year and earn the STAR award for their accomplishments.
DOWNTOWN DORAL CHARTER ELEMENTARY
The Florida Educational Facilities Planners’ Association hosted its Winter Conference Architectural Showcase, which judge entries based on their response to educational program, green design, site development, aesthetics and use of materials.
Downtown Doral Charter Elementary, which opened in August 2015, placed first in the Elementary School category for its design and dual-language program, which offers classes in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year closed in January 2016 and selected applicants have been notified.

MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE
The Museum of Discovery and Science, in partnership with JetBlue and the Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant Foundation, will host an Aviation Academy Internship for 10th- and 11th-grade students to learn about aviation careers, new technologies and physics on every Saturday beginning April 2.
The internship will include guest speakers, presentations, a tour of the museum’s aviation exhibit, and a Drone Challenge competition.

THE DAIRY COUNCIL OF FLORIDA
The Dairy Council of Florida is hosting its third annual Gridiron Cooking Challenge, a cooking competition for elementary and middle school students throughout Florida.
Students are required to create and submit an original recipe featuring dairy products. The four finalist teams are from Grove Elementary, Everglades Elementary and Nova Eisenhower Elementary.
The teams will compete for the grand prize on April 16 as they create fruit and waffle kabobs.
