School Scene: Fienberg-Fisher K-8 Center students earn Turken Heart Award

Eleven Fienberg-Fisher K-8 Center students were winners of the Jennifer Beth Turken Heart Award for the month of October.

Jennifer was a former student at North Beach Elementary School who died of a brain tumor. The program was implemented in her memory to award students for their kindness towards others.

Students receive a certificate and are invited to an ice cream party.

Winners were Michelle Chinchilla, Annalise Maldonado, Emily Molinet, Dionel Gomez, Mia Fernandez, Michael Gutierrez, Myles Daguer, Katie Martinez, Alaine Incera, Marianne Iriza and Jemiah Termilu.

CONCHITA ESPINOSA ACADEMY

Several eighth graders of Conchita Espinosa Academy were recognized for their scores on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS), standardized tests provided by the College of Education at the University of Iowa, that measure academic growth.

Students were invited to breakfast at Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School to celebrate their academic achievement.

Honorary students included Bianca Arocha, Amanda Gonzalez, Anna Gutfreund, Amy Labrador, Nicole Medina, Angie Menendez, Marcus Mesa, Jaden Rodriguez, Jasmine Rosales, Andres Sordo Martinez and Christina Texeira.

GULLIVER SCHOOLS

Seniors Julian Asilis, Dante Benitez, Philippe Bethlem, Ivan Perdomo and Luis Vera of Gulliver Schools were recognized as National Hispanic Scholars by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Each student took the 2014 Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and had a GPA of 3.5 or higher during their junior year of high school.

Julian, Dante and senior Andrew Boas were commended by the National Merit Scholarship Program for academic excellence.

CUTLER BAY HIGH SCHOOL

Cutler Bay High School will host an information night 7 p.m. Dec. 10 in the school auditorium, 8601 S.W. 212 St., in Cutler Bay.

CURRICULUM EXPO

There will be a Curriculum Expo for schools within the Homestead, South Dade and Miami Southridge High School feeder patterns at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Southland Mall, 20505 S. Dixie Hwy., in Cutler Bay.

Administrators, teachers and students will talk about the magnet and choice programs.
