Miami Jackson Senior High teacher faces charges over ‘sex’ with a minor: records

A teacher at Miami Jackson Senior High School was jailed Friday on allegations of “sexual activity” with a minor, records show.

Leroy Wright, 46, is facing charges of offenses against students by authority figures and unlawful sexual activity with a specific minor. He was also given a third charge involving obscene material and minors, according to jail records.

Around 5:20 p.m., Wright was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The details behind his arrest are not yet clear as an official report has not been released.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools said in a statement, “The type of behavior this individual is accused of will not be tolerated, as it runs contrary to the professional conduct we expect from all employees.”

Parents of Miami Jackson Senior High students received a phone message from Principal Rendina Turner on Friday about the arrest.

“Dr. Leroy Wright, an employee of the school, was recently arrested for a crime against a minor by an authority figure,” she said in the message shared with the Miami Herald.

She went onto say Wright was “removed from the school site.”

The district confirmed to the Herald that Wright is in the process of being terminated and MDCPS “will ensure the individual is precluded from seeking future employment with the District.”

“At M-DCPS, the safety and well-being of all students remain our top priority,” the district said.

In 2002, Wright was previously sentenced to two years probation and made to pay $1,479.49 in restitution for a grand theft charge in Volusia County, court records show.

As of Friday night, Wright was still in jail.
