A new Florida law aims to strengthen the teaching of cursive writing in public schools.

The new cursive requirements are part of a sweeping education bill that was recently signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and takes effect July 1.

Starting in third grade, students learn to read and write in cursive. The law specifies that students must show proficiency by the fifth grade, as they ready to leave elementary school.
