A student was jailed on Friday for bringing a weapon to a high school, according to Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

The weapon was found at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, 15900 SW 56th St, after it was reported via FortifyFl, an app that allows students and parents to report suspicious activity to law enforcement and school officials. No threats were made, according to the school district.

The school district said the app is an important tool for school safety.

Miami-Dade Schools police quickly made an arrest. It remains unclear what type of weapon was brought into the school.

“All reports will be taken seriously and may lead to life-altering consequences,” the district said.
