FIU gets $2.3 million in federal education grants
Florida International University has received three grants from the U.S. Department of Education — money that the federal government earmarks for programs with a “global” purpose.
The $2.3 million received by FIU is part of more than $63million awarded to colleges and universities across the U.S.. The share awarded to FIU will go to three programs: $1.2million to fund language studies at FIU’s Latin American and Caribbean Center, $900,000 for teacher training programs at the same FIU Latin American center, and $187,000 to expand FIU’s African and African Diaspora Studies program.
