Broward schools commemorate 17 victims who died in Parkland five years ago

While most in the world view Feb. 14 as a day full of happiness, the Broward community treats it as a day of service to remember the 17 lives lost in 2018.

Valentine’s Day this year marked the fifth anniversary of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The tragedy shocked the country and devastated South Florida.

Across Broward County Public Schools on Tuesday, students, faculty and staff performed acts of kindness to honor the victims’ memories.

At Plantation Middle School in Plantation, there was a drive-by continental breakfast for the City of Plantation first responders and city officials.

At Silver Shores Elementary School in Miramar, the school’s community gathered and created a giant human heart in the P.E. field.

And at Silver Lakes Middle School in North Lauderdale, a love-and-peace-themed mural was painted. Here are a few photos of that occasion:
