Miami-Dade Schools reopening Thursday as threat of Nicole lifts in county
Miami-Dade County students will be back in the classroom on Thursday as the school district announced the end of its closure. The county is no longer under threat of tropical storm conditions from oncoming Hurricane Nicole.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools said its schools and facilities will reopen on Thursday after being shut down on Wednesday. All adult, after-care programs, athletics and school activities will also resume.
The school district cited Miami-Dade County no longer being under a tropical storm watch as one of its reasons to reopen school doors. (Nicole strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday evening and is forecast to come ashore somewhere north of the Palm Beach-Martin County border.)
Students will still get a three-day weekend as schools are still scheduled to close on Friday for Veterans Day.
Broward County Public School students won’t have classes Thursday, as the school district announced it would extend its Wednesday closure. Palm Beach County students also have school canceled on Thursday.

Parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties are still under a tropical storm warning, meaning the area could start to feel tropical storm conditions.
