Where and when school kids can pick up meals this fall at Miami-Dade and Broward schools
The school year in Broward and Miami-Dade counties will begin online this fall, but healthy meals will still be available for students and families on school days.
Students will be able to pick up several days worth of lunches and breakfasts at one time at school sites, according to the districts.
Here’s what you need to know:
Miami-Dade County Public Schools
Grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches will be available to all Miami-Dade County Public Schools students when schools reopen on Aug. 31.
Meals will be prepared at school facilities and distributed to families outside of school hours, M-DCPS announced in its “Reopen Smart, Return Safe” school reopening plan.
The district said it will release food distribution dates and times shortly.
Although not all schools will offer meal pickup services, parents and students can find their closest pickup location on the district’s dedicated web page.
Cashless or online payment will be used for all meals, the district said in the plan.
Broward County Public Schools
In Broward, students will be able to pick up five grab-and-go meals at a time from school sites, according to Broward County Public Schools.
Beginning the week of Aug. 16, meals will be available on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Thursday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Broward County Public Schools open on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The following weeks, meals will be distributed Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same times, according to BCPS.
The federal Universal Free Breakfast program will provide breakfasts for free, while students will receive free, discounted or full-price lunches based on their meal eligibility under the National School Lunch Program.
Both districts require students and families to present identification at their assigned pickup locations.
